For a list of all the parishes within the county of Yorkshire, click on 'Parishes in Yorkshire' from the menu on the left. There are over 600 parishes in this county. Halifax is the largest parish.

We all reach a brick wall in our research, at some time. We hope some of our resources, available on CD, will help you to solve your family mystery.

We recommend www.genuki.org.uk for really good information, and particularly the Yorkshire pages at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/index.html for all of the places, and some of the people, in Yorkshire. This brilliant website has a photo of almost every church in the county, transcripts from directories and some of the parish records, information on where to find the records you need.

Mysteries!  Be a detective. Search for clues, follow a trail. Once you have found one ancestor, you are on your way back to the earlier generation. But, it is not a race to see how far back you can go!  Try, instead, to discover as much as you possibly can about those grandparents and great grandparents. You may be surprised at what you discover - whether they were born in the workhouse or in a castle, there will be something in their lives that you did not know about.

You might like to visit us at our Library and Family History Research Centre. This is situated at Ebberston, in North Yorkshire, 9 miles west of Scarborough and 6 miles east of Pickering. We offer facilities for you to research your own ancestry and expert help if required. We also have a range of accommodation, so you can stay for an hour, a day or even longer! We have a small caravan park, two self-catering cottages and also bed and breakfast facilities within our own farmhouse. For more details of this, please visit http://www.studleyhousefarm.co.uk/

See us at some fair and exhibitions, particularly the Yorkshire Family History Fair at the Knavesmire Exhibition Centre, York Racecourse. This is an annual event, held on the last Saturday of June. Representatives from family history societies, groups and businesses from all over the UK exhibit here. Several thousand visitors come through the doors, but there is plenty of space for them all, and free parking. Details on http://www.yorkshirefamilyhistoryfair.com

We also attend the "Who Do You Think You Are? Live" family history event at Olympia at the end of February each year, and the Great Yorkshire Show, at Harrogate, every July.
